EP.79 Side Story, Apostate (Complete)

   The sword of death, Ganicalt.

Kyle saw disaster right before his eyes. It is a skeleton made up of human bones and demonic beast bones mixed together. The bone is not fully formed. Bones are protruding. It is not a single skeleton. Dozens of skeletons are mixed up.

Those of demon beasts, those of humans, and those of demons.

The skeleton with all sorts of things mixed together is bizarre. It’s not even balanced.

Ganicalt moves his limp right arm.

There is a low sound of a great sword being dragged on the floor.

The right arm holding the large sword with a hole in it is enlarged.

It’s not a human arm. A human spine wraps around an arm with six fingers. The left arm is thin compared to the enlarged right arm. Unlike the right arm, which appears to be that of a demonic beast, the left arm resembles that of a human.

   “·····.”

   Kyle lifts his head.

It’s so big that you have to raise your head to see its face. Ganichalt, the sword of death, was hiding his face with his tattered clothes. Kyle narrowed her eyes. A helmet is visible through the tattered hem of the clothes. The helmet is not intact. Half of it is broken.

   ‘Black eyes.’

Black eyes flashed within the crumbled helmet.

Abyss-like black eyes look at Kyle.

   “you.”

   It opens its mouth.

“Aren’t you going to pick up a sword?”

Kyle looks at the holy sword that he once lost.

I belatedly heard a sound from behind me. The knights who noticed that the demon beast had disappeared were coming towards Kyle.

   ‘No, you have to stop…’

   No words came out.

Kyle turned his head back. There are knights running towards you.

   Huh.

The great sword sweeps the grassland.

The tip of the sword is not pointed at Kyle. The wind blew. The wind that blew smelled rotten.

   “···ah.”

   Suddenly.

The knights running towards Kyle fall over.

They were beheaded and died without even leaving a single word behind. With one swing, the knights are swept away.

It’s different from when you rush towards a crustacean.

   That death is meaningless.

Blood splattered. Death fills the meadows.

   “I ask.”

   Death is calling Kyle.

   Death is fair to everyone.

“Aren’t you going to pick up a sword?”

Kyle reached out for the holy sword in fear. He took a step back and grabbed her by the hilt of the sword.

There is no halo in the eyes.

Starlight does not fill the holy sword.

It’s something I’ve never experienced before. Kyle gritted his teeth and adjusted her holy sword.

   ‘why.’

   Meanwhile, death approaches.

‘Why isn’t the light coming out? why?’

   Kyle looks up.

Before we know it, death is just around the corner. Death lifts his sword.

   Kyle senses death.

The death we face is futile. All the things we have built up are meaningless in the face of death. I can’t even hold a knife properly.

Like all life, humans are helpless in the face of death.

   “Didn’t I tell you, Kyle?”

   and.

“Don’t trust the stars too much.”

Someone pulls Kyle’s neck. The knife gets stuck in the spot where Kyle was standing just a moment ago. Kyle, who had escaped death right in front of him, slowly turned his head.

   “···Master?”

The Sword Master, Kuntel, was standing there.

   2.

Kuntel wiped the blood flowing from his forehead.

My stamina is low because I’m dealing with a crustacean. The condition of the knife is also not good. It’s right to take a break.

   But, why?

The moment he discovered the disaster in the distance, Kuntel was already running. He was pulling on Kyle’s neck.

   ‘The sword of death, Ganicalt.’

The death we face for the first time in decades is still the same.

Ganicalt, the sword of death, is a swordsman. He does not cut down defenseless enemies.

   “Kyle.”

Kuntel gave strength to the hand holding Kyle’s neck.

   “You cannot die here.”

   If someone has to die.

It has to be yourself, not the warrior.

“Go, I’ll take care of this.”

Throw it away with as much force as it is. In the direction where the gray wizard is. At that moment, the ejected chain wrapped around Kyle.

Kyle opens his eyes wide while floating in the air.

   Facing that gaze, Kuntel smiled.

“I’ll leave the next one to you. “Kyle.”

After sending Kyle away, Kuntel looked ahead again.

face death Death stretched out his human arm and pointed at the sword Kuntel was holding.

“It’s the sword of the Holy Land.”

   Death asks.

“Are you the prosecutor who didn’t draw his sword at that time?”

“It was a time when it was meaningless to even call one a prosecutor.”

   Death lifts his sword.

   “Now you are a prosecutor.”

“I don’t know what to do with you evaluating me like that.”

Kuntel raises the corner of his mouth.

It has been 30 years since that day, when the Canyon of the Sword collapsed. Over the past 30 years, Kuntel has pictured the sword of death in his mind again and again.

   ‘I remember all that.’

A person called the sword superman sacrificed his life to fight against one sword. The years that have passed are bearing fruit. Kuntel saw.

   A place where death sweeps.

Kuntel took a light step forward.

Death swept everywhere except in front. Kuntel dodges the blow and draws his sword.

‘Throw away the thought of reaching it.’

   You can’t stop disaster.

Don’t worry about what you can’t do.

‘The important thing is to buy time.’

Buys time for the warrior to escape.

I don’t think even that is possible. The death you face is more terrible than any enemy.

Every time it swings its sword, the ground explodes.

   Death touches my skin.

Death approaching right around the corner stimulates fear.

   However, Kuntel feels no fear.

I was prepared for death from the moment I drew my sword. There were no regrets. This is why I decided that if there was a place to abandon this life of reaching peaks and falling, it would be here.

   Wow.

The great sword passes over Kuntel’s head.

The great sword wielded by the bloated arm is heavy and sharp. Neither its weight nor its sharpness can compare to Kuntel’s sword.

   However, Kuntel has.

What the sword of death does not have.

   ‘technology.’

Ganicalt swings his sword like a blunt weapon.

Do not use swordsmanship. It’s powerful enough on its own, but if it goes into close range… that’s the realm of technology.

‘Dig into it. It sheds. Start the orbit. ‘Disturbance.’

The sword-wielding superman who is prepared to give up his life shows everything he has. Technology honed over decades delays approaching death.

This is impossible if the opponent is a wizard.

Even if it were an ancient monster that swept away with overwhelming violence, this would be impossible.

However, the opponent is a prosecutor.

If the person holding the sword was the opponent… Kuntel was confident that he would not be overwhelmed with swordsmanship.

   ‘I am the Sword Master.’

How much swordsmanship took place like that?

It felt like I had stayed up all night, or it felt like only a few seconds had passed.

   “Whoo, whoo….”

Kuntel’s clothes are soaked with blood and sweat.

Blood flows from the entire body cut by the wind pressure. The fingers holding the sword are tattered as a reward for attempting the impossible.

Just standing still is a penance.

   “·····.”

Ganicalt, who was looking at Kuntel, slashed his sword towards the floor.

   Coo!

The bursting wind pressure pushes Kuntel back.

   “I ask.”

The sword of death lays down its sword.

Instead of a bizarre right arm, the sword is held with a left arm that resembles a human one.

   “What is your name?”

   Kuntel answers that question.

“This is Kuntel of the Liechtena school.”

   “Kuntel.”

Ganicalt pulls out the sword from the ground. He lifts the great sword with his left arm, which is not suitable for holding a huge sword. He points the tip of the knife at Kuntel.

“I show my respect to the proud prosecutor.”

   He adjusted his sword.

   Kuntel opened his eyes wide.

   ‘different.’

It is not a demonic sword. It is a human sword.

It is not a sword that can only be wielded with force. Kuntel feels familiar with Ganikalt’s posture.

   Cooung.

After adjusting his posture, Ganicalt took a step forward and swung his sword. Kuntel burst into laughter as he watched the approaching sword attack.

   ‘is it.’

There’s no way you wouldn’t know that posture.

There’s no way I wouldn’t know the trajectory of that sword.

‘You too were a sword master.’

Swordsmanship in the Valley of the Sword.

It unfolds through the sword of death, the sword of Ganicalt. A person with a body that overwhelms even a warrior demonstrates top-notch skills.

There is no way to stop it.

Kuntel feels death. There is no way for him to avoid the approaching sword. It’s not a matter of power and speed.

   ‘It’s a different level.’

I know this because I am Kuntel, a sword master.

The levels are different. It is an enemy that is at a very high level. A future in which one’s head falls off is clearly pictured.

   I see death.

In the face of death, humans are shabby.

No matter how great your achievements are, in the face of death, everything returns to nothingness.

   Kaduk.

   However, sometimes it does.

A person who wants to leave something behind through death.

   Wow.

   Death sweeps through Kuntel.

Kuntel’s head falls off. The heart is broken. The blade that cannot withstand it breaks.

In return for all that, Kuntel thrust out his sword.

The broken tip of the sword touches Ganicalt’s body. The tenacity of a person who devoted his life was met with disaster.

   “·····.”

Ganikalt sees Kuntel’s dismembered body on the floor.

And then, I see a hero running away in the distance.

Ganicalt did not chase the warrior.

Putting down the sword, he picks up the unconscious body of Gletus and walks away. Beyond the black fields, into the demon world.

   3.

“···So, while Uncle Kuntel held out against the sword of death, we ran away.”

I wet my throat with alcohol.

“The story ends here. After that, I encountered Gletus a few times… and the Sword of Death once more, but talking about it would take too long.”

   “This is enough.”

   Cardi nodded.

He touched his glass and opened his mouth.

   “That’s amazing.”

   “what.”

“I’m talking about that sword master. “Ganikalt, I can’t help but think it’s surprising that you would even think of holding on to that guy with a sword.”

I laughed bitterly at that answer.

It was just as Cardi said. That day, on the Black Plains, Sword Master Kuntel accomplished a feat. We know best how great it is.

‘Then, when we faced the sword of death, we were in a hurry to run away.’

   “So, Cardi.”

I put down my empty glass and looked at Cardi.

   “What is shade?”

“…You said you faced the sword of death, right?”

“uh. “I’ve dealt with it up close.”

“Wasn’t there a hole in that sword?”

   I nodded.

‘A great sword with a hole.’

I remember the appearance of that iconic sword.

“That guy probably didn’t use it when dealing with the prosecutor… but I think he used it when dealing with you.”

   “What?”

“Water must have flowed from the hole in the bayonet.”

“···That’s right, remember. “A scum that swallows up whatever spell you cast.”

Because of that, Kyle was the only one who could face the sword of death. Because my spell lost its shine in front of that junk.

“Yes, swallowing everything that uses starlight as a medium. “That is called shade.”

Cardi brought a lantern from the table.

He began to speak, placing the lantern on its stand.

“We wizards make spells by dealing with stars. “All magic has a faint hint of starlight.”

He pointed to the flickering lamp.

“By the way, Raniel. Isn’t it strange if you think about it? “Everything is in balance… so why doesn’t there exist something that is in balance with starlight?”

   Cardi touched the lamp.

“Life is balanced by death. There is an opposite concept to everything. However, stars do not exist as much as they do. The stars always shine brightly. Despite its enormous power, there is no balance.”

   He slowly lowered his finger.

“Originally, the concept opposite to the stars should not have existed. Unless some madman observed it and derived it as a concept.”

Cardi points to the shade pooled under the lamp.

“Shade is a concept that is in balance with the stars. “If the starlight shines brightly, the shadow also grows.”

“···Then, it’s not something that swallows mana.”

“All you have to do is swallow everything related to the stars.”

   Cardi said.

“To drive it out, either use a light so brilliant that it cannot be swallowed up… or cover it with a bigger shadow. “It’s probably only one of the two.”

As I listened to the story, a hypothesis popped into my head. I tried to put that hypothesis into words.

   “Cardi, just in case…”

   “Until there.”

   Cardi interrupted me.

“Not yet. “That is information that can only be revealed if you dig a little deeper into the shadows.”

“···Do you know what I’m going to ask you?”

“Anyway, it’s not possible. “I had to pay a lot of attention just to get to this point.”

He said, gulping down the rest of his drink.

“I’ll just hope that the day never comes when I have to say this.”

   “···Anyway.”

I sighed and fell down on the table. Cardi, who was staring at me, suddenly opened her mouth.

   “You’ve grown a lot, baby.”

   “what?”

   “You, you. “Raniel.”

Cardi continued speaking with a faint smile.

“It’s a strange feeling that a little boy who lost his hometown to the devil will eat the gray magic tower, face disaster on the battlefield and come out alive.”

“Are you senile? “Why is there a sudden fuss?”

“That’s just the way it is.”

   He shrugged his shoulders.

“It seems like you’ve worked hard over the past five years.”

   “It was difficult.”

“Was it really necessary? Even if you ran away the moment you faced disaster, no one would have said anything.”

   “I wouldn’t have said anything.”

I said, thinking about the past five years.

   “But, you shouldn’t do that.”

   “·····.”

“Countless knights sacrificed themselves for us. “They gave up their lives hoping that we would catch the devil and defeat disaster.”

A warrior stands on countless sacrifices.

Anyone is willing to give up their life for the sake of a hero. If we lined up just the knights who sacrificed for us, it would be enough to fill the plain.

   ‘Sword Master, Uncle Kuntel.’

Even such superhumans willingly gave up their lives.

   By believing in our potential.

   “How can you ignore that?”

   I just couldn’t ignore it.

It started as a journey for achievement, but as time passed, it became a duty and responsibility.

“I have to catch it even if I have to die. “It’s a warrior party for that purpose, and a warrior party for that purpose.”

   I laughed bitterly.

“Well, I guess I was the only one who thought that.”

At some point, there was no longer any light in Kyle’s eyes. The possibilities I saw were fading away.

No matter how hard I try.

Even if it means risking your life.

Without Kyle’s help, we cannot cut down the remaining disaster. It is difficult to deal with the devil.

‘So, I tried to rehabilitate him somehow…’

   In the end it failed.

I was tired of trying to convince a guy who was busy making out with me every day, so it didn’t seem like we had much of a conversation right before leaving.

“Well, anyway, I had a good drink. “I listened to the story well.”

   “Wait a moment, Raniel.”

As I was about to stand up, Cardi grabbed my wrist. I looked at him as if asking why, and he pointed to a corner of the store.

   ‘···Apple rat stone.’

The rat I had blown into the wall was stuck in the wall.

   “Why is that?”

“Aren’t you going to clean that up?”

“f*ck, who wants to put that on the table?”

   “Clean it up and go.”

A word from the author (author review)

The side story is over… !

There are a lot of scenes I want to show, so it’s longer than originally planned. We will make sure this does not happen next time. sorry.

The academy will operate normally from next week… !

*The illustration of the sword of death was created by the author of the typo. It’s still in a rough state, and when it’s completed, I’ll post it on a separate notice… !
