Episode 92. Tower of Modras

After finishing my early morning workout, I headed somewhere without stopping by the dormitory.

Today was the day to form groups for the mid-term evaluation, especially the joint evaluation with first-year students of the Department of Engineering.

‘Tower of Modras Alven.’

A deterioration plate created by Modras Alven, the first head of the Alven family, after experiencing the real ‘tower’ in the imperial palace.

As befits the creator of space magic, a symbol of the Alven family, the tower he created was enormous in scale.

‘It’s nothing compared to the actual tower, but even taking that into account, it’s a great result.’

Entry to the Tower of Modras is made up of 10 teams.

Only 10 teams were allowed to enter, so if the team ahead took several days to attack, they had to wait that long.

‘But most of the time it’s over in a day or two.’

Until now, no one has completely broken the Tower of Modras.

Even though it was less difficult than the ‘tower’ in the imperial palace, no one saw the end.

The founder, Modras, has restricted entry to the Tower of Modras.

Organisms that have lived for more than 25 years were not allowed to enter, so only students could use it.

‘That’s why professors can’t even go in to check.’

Instead, the inside of the Tower of Modras was able to see the inside because the screen sharing magic was applied. This was a device designed by Modras for educational purposes to enable professors to evaluate students by looking at them.

Thanks to this, we were able to confirm that there were a total of 30 floors, but no one had ever climbed to the 30th floor or broken it.

As I slowly jogged, I saw the Tower of Modras in the distance.

There were already students gathered in front of him, and although I wasn’t late, I couldn’t help but feel like I was the last one to arrive, so all eyes were on me.

“Is that Adrias Cromwell?”

“It comes last. Is the main character appearing? haha.”

Most of the new students in the Department of Engineering looked at me with eyes full of interest and curiosity. Well, I guess it’s amazing too. It would be rare to see someone who can use magic and a sword at the same time.

“That’s shameless. “What have you been doing to come here now?”

“Has he done that once or twice? “He was always like that.”

Contrary to the freshmen, my classmates didn’t seem to view me very favorably.

It must have been like that because the guy who had been looked down on as being far below him suddenly started doing well.

Of course, not everyone is like that, about 80% are like that.

‘I did accumulate karma.’

I didn’t have a very good personality before either, so it might be a bit of my fault.

But what can I do? If not, you just have to be stronger than me.

“Adrias Cromwell.”

As I approached my classmates, they parted ways as if a miracle of Moses had occurred.

It was obvious that they didn’t want to get close to me, but Dienne waved her hand among those people.

“good morning. Diene.”

“uh. “Have you finished what you did yesterday?”

“yes. “I have it sorted out.”

Dienne seemed to have enjoyed the recent research together and was attending every day.

He must have been busy studying for the evaluation, so I was grateful that he took the time to come, but he also seemed a little sad.

To her, this work seems to feel more like a gathering with friends than research.

That’s probably proof that you’re prone to loneliness and that you’re actually lonely.

‘One of Dienne’s characteristics is that she is poor at interpersonal relationships, so she is secretly weak to emotions and easily swayed.’

As Dienne continued to tease her, there was one person who looked at her with uneasy eyes, and it was Diene’s best friend, Yuri Kaltz.

She was standing next to Dienne, giving me an odd look.

It was like a mother cat watching out for natural enemies.

‘Am I going to eat Diene or something?’

I glanced at Yuri with a slightly dejected expression and then looked at Diene, who was still chatting.

“… … So I thought about it yesterday and I think I should add a little more magania leaves.”

“Let’s look at the group formation today and give it a try if it’s not urgent.”

“good.”

When I saw Dienne nodding her head with a satisfied expression, I thought it was quite cute. In fact, her appearance was close to the ideal type Adrias had previously thought of, so she did not find this thought awkward.

‘By the way, you’ve been staring at me a lot since a while ago.’

I turned my gaze and this time looked towards the Knight Faculty.

Three people in particular stood out, all looking at me.

‘Lewis, Serena, Chris.’

Since I couldn’t watch Louis, I’ll skip it. I wonder how much the other two have grown.

What I couldn’t help but look forward to was that I had guided them once, but those two had directly dealt with Todlon who had consumed a black magic potion.

This would definitely have been a great experience for those two.

‘It would be nice if we were in the same group in the evaluation, but that’s unlikely.’

The criteria for group formation were evenly organized in order of grades.

Not only will those three probably be split up, but Dienne and I will also be grouped together with the weaker extras.

Since it’s something that can’t be helped, I’ll have to watch the broadcast screen when they enter the Tower of Modras.

Fortunately, the broadcast screen was open to not only professors but also students.

“Everyone is here.”

Kaylin Jose of the Department of Magic, who was in charge of this evaluation, suddenly appeared and said.

And standing next to her was Professor Orte Marigold of the Department of Knight Studies.

Both were middle-aged professors, and in particular, Orte had a brilliant record as a former vice-captain of the Marquis Oswald’s Order of the White Falcon. He was a white-haired professor who had lost one eye, but he was a talented professor who boasted muscles befitting his age.

Kaylin immediately began explaining the evaluation.

“This evaluation… … .”

It was all something I already knew.

And the students gathered here must have already guessed it.

Gathering in front of the Tower of Modras was reason enough to guess, but it was only natural since it was an evaluation that took place almost every year as an annual event.

“From now on, I will call the pre-organized groups.”

When the explanation was over, Ortega opened his mouth.

Everyone’s attention was focused on the word about forming a group.

“group 1! Michael, Sebastian, Maxim… … Article 97! Gilbert, Britney, Angelo, Adrias… … .”

There were 7 people per group, 5 from the knight department and 2 wizards.

But, unfortunately, I was assigned to the last group.

‘Is it actually better?’

For me, who had to take care of the hidden pieces anyway, the less attention the better.

Since it was the last group, students who had completed the evaluation were likely to be less interested.

The students gathered in groups and made brief statements.

I also visited my group members.

‘They’re all idiots.’

Perhaps because I was a finalist, all the pretty guys were selected as part of the group.

The first-year trio and Diene were all scattered, as I expected.

The group members all looked at me with expectant eyes, and they looked like chicks. I took a look at my classmate next to me, and after confirming that he was hesitant, I opened my mouth first.

“Adrias Cromwell. “I am a 4th year student in the Department of Magic.”

Even though it seemed like I already knew everything before I introduced myself, I made a clear statement.

Then, my colleague next to me opened his mouth as if he had been waiting for it.

“I’m Vincent Vega. “I’m a fourth-year Magic student like Adrias.”

He was an extra who didn’t even appear in the story.

Still, I knew the names of all my classmates by heart because I had them all memorized.

After we made our full statement first, the freshmen quickly began to introduce themselves.

They were all extras with no influence like Vincent, but I knew their names because they were Lewis’ classmates.

“I didn’t know I would be in the same group as Adrias!”

They gave me curious looks, especially looking at the Galakshur on my belt.

“Senior Adrias, I heard a rumor, but did you really beat Chris with swordsmanship alone?”

Britney, the only member of the group, asked.

I quietly shook my head in response to her question.

“I don’t know where I heard this, but it’s a meaningless question.”

“You mean it has no meaning?”

“Because I can’t swing a sword properly yet.”

This is a sincere story.

I was confident that I could beat Chris in terms of wins and losses, but in terms of swordsmanship alone, Chris’s sword was of a higher level than mine.

My sword was extremely dependent on combat talent, so it was still closer to combat skills than swordsmanship.

But the freshmen who heard my story didn’t seem to think so.

“Are you also a finalist? “I can afford it.”

“You are humble.”

“I also want to spar someday!”

He seemed to be misunderstanding something, but no explanation was given.

It felt uncomfortable to see even my classmate, Vincent, looking at me with admiration, but it also felt awkward to add more words here.

After a brief conversation with the group members, Professor Orte spoke again.

“As Professor Kaylin just said, Groups 1 to 10 will now enter the Tower of Modras first. Groups 11 to 20 can stand by and other groups can disband. “When your turn comes, a message will be sent to your tablet, so you can do your business in the meantime.”

Since it was the last turn, it seemed like our turn wouldn’t come until at least today.

I thought I should spend that time doing research or magic training, but when I thought about it, I remembered that Serena and Louis were among the first students to enter.

‘Let’s take a look around a bit.’

Most of the other students seemed to have the same thoughts as me, so rather than disperse, they approached the 10 huge screens installed at the tower entrance.

The Tower of Modras is basically a copy of the ‘tower’ in the imperial palace, so it reflects Modras’s own experience climbing the tower.

Until now, a database had been built up and strategies were secretly passed around among students, but at best it only went up to the 10th floor.

There were certainly people who climbed the mountain after that, but the number was so small that it was difficult to even call it a strategy, so it was meaningless as most of them barely escaped annihilation.

“ah!”

As exclamations flowed out, I could see that among the groups that had just entered, some were already eliminated.

Basically, the Tower of Modras was for educational purposes, so it automatically ejected from the tower when a life-threatening situation occurred. The person who is ejected comes out with a card in his hand indicating which floor he was eliminated from.

“Oh, I guess I was too nervous.”

The student who was eliminated showed his anger and went to the exit to check his team members on the screen. The evaluation was basically a scoring method, and the score was the sum of the number of floors from which the seven group members bounced.

“Wow, hey! “Look at that.”

“I do it all by myself. “After all, it’s Lewis.”

Lewis’ brilliant performance was broadcast live on the screen.

Someone was taking pictures of the screen with a tablet and broadcasting it in real time.

‘Where is Serena…’ … .’

Serena must have listened to my advice and no longer insisted on using the great sword.

However, perhaps because of the sudden change in weaponry, he was not able to perform as brilliantly as Lewis and was simply doing his best as a member.

“It’s the second floor.”

“The second floor was the floor where goblins appeared, right?”

Basically, all the monsters and traps in the Tower of Modras were illusions. This is a result that would not have been possible if it were not for Modras, a master of space magic.

“Adrias Cromwell.”

As I was watching the screen, I turned my head when I heard Diene’s voice coming from next to me.

Then Diene spoke to me with eyes full of desire.

“Let’s make a bet.”

“A bet?”

“uh. Who will climb this tower more? how is it?”

I was surprised that they asked me to make a bet, but I never thought Diene would make such an offer to me.

Your attitude toward me has changed a bit these days, but do you think that highly of me?

There was no way Dienne, who reveres fairness and justice, would suggest a bet if she thought of me as lower than herself.

‘I guess this is an offer you’re making because you consider me to be on the same level as yourself, right?’

Was the last tournament the trigger?

Anyway, it didn’t matter to me.

I was planning to see it through to the end anyway, but it’s nice to have a competitive spirit.

“great. “Which one should I bet on?”

“Grant one wish. how is it?”

“yes?”

I was a little embarrassed.

No, I was very embarrassed.

As for a wish, isn’t that too vague and broad?

“Why are you not confident?”

“That’s not it… … .”

“Then let’s do it. “Why do you talk so much?”

After saying that, Diene waved her hand and disappeared somewhere.

It was a moment when there was another reason why the Tower of Modras must be destroyed.
